History
The interaction database is based on the professional work of P.K.M. Lunde, Olav Spigset, Espen Molden and many others over more than 30 years. The website interaksjoner.net and the DRUID (Drug Information Database) were originally a collaboration between Ivar Aursnes and Per Johan Næsje at the Institute of Pharmacotherapy at the University of Oslo, Olav Spigset at the Drug Department at the Regional Hospital in Trondheim (now St. Olav's Hospital), and Khang Nguyen and Magne Rekdal at Pfizer AS, initiated by the latter.
- Launched in 2000, coordinated with the annual work by Spigset for the Norwegian Medicines Handbook.
- In 2005 the operational responsibility was moved from the Institute of Pharmacotherapy to Emetra AS.
- In 2012 the Norwegian Medicines Agency (now DMP) took over maintenance of the two databases DRUID and Apriori.
This formed the basis for the interactions part of FEST (Prescribing and Dispensing Support). - As of April 2012, the content of the interaction database is exclusively based on data from FEST.
- In 2015 Emetra AS was acquired by and merged with DIPS AS, which thereby took over operational responsibility.
- As of April 2026, operational responsibility rests with Whitebrook AS, a company owned by Magne Rekdal.
Updates
The database is updated twice a month with interaction data from FEST. It is updated daily with trade names from a number of countries, although not all sources are updated continuously. Except for the USA, all data come from the respective national medicines agencies.
- Nordic: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
- Other Europe: Belgium, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Hungary.
- Outside Europe: Canada, Colombia, New Zealand and the USA.
In addition to automatic import, all data undergo a manual process to remove information from sources that is of little relevance, such as company names, strengths, formulations, etc.
